Get to Know Dr. Lorena Campos Herrera

Dr. Lorena Herrera was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and moved to the United States at age 11 with her missionary parents and younger brother. After earning their pastoral degrees, her parents settled in the U.S. and went on to establish several non-denominational Christian churches serving the large Brazilian community in Dallas, Texas. Today, Dr. Herrera’s approach to dental care centers on connecting with her patients as people first — understanding their stories, needs, and goals — and then guiding them on their oral health journey. Her mission is to create a warm, safe, and comfortable environment for the entire family while delivering exceptional, compassionate dental care.

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Before becoming a dentist, Dr. Herrera worked as a dental assistant for 11 years, giving her more than 22 years of experience in the dental field. This hands-on background inspired her deep love for the art of dentistry and the meaningful relationships she builds with her patients. She has seen firsthand the transformative power of a smile and the confidence it brings. She’s also always had a deep interest in both science and people, and dentistry allows her the opportunity to engage her scientific and artistic side while being able to make a significant difference in the lives of others.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Herrera earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas at Arlington and later completed a postbaccalaureate program in Neuroscience at the University of Texas at Dallas. She then pursued her passion for dentistry at Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry (formerly Baylor College of Dentistry), where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. She also has advanced training in areas like TMJ treatment and BOTOX.

Dr. Herrera is also a proud member of several professional organizations where she seeks continuing education courses and remains up to date with the latest in dentistry. These include the:

  • American Dental Association
  • Texas Dental Association
  • Academy of General Dentistry
  • Dallas Study Club (a branch of the Seattle Study Club)
